Yerushalajim
Pinchas Sadeh
Jerusalem

Du schwebst in der Höhe
Zwischen glücklichen Sternen,
In glanztrunkenen Bahnen
Von unerforschten Welten.
Auf deiner Stirn Blumenkronen
Aus Purpur und Karmesin
Aus den Bluttropfen der Propheten
Die ewig eingefroren sind in deinem Kranz.
Kein einziger Erdenstaub
erbarme dich bitte.
Über die teuflische Schwärze
Einer Welt voller Qualen
Leuchtet die Weiße deines Körpers,
Du Gottesbraut.
Glücklich sei der, der das Licht
deines geliebten Gesichts sehen darf.
Glücklich sei der, der deine weiße Sohlen
Küssen wird.

Yerusalem

You're floating in the skies
Among happy stars,
Traveling on shine-soaked orbits
of  not-to-be-explored worlds.
The flowers of velvet and silk
adorning your forehead
are dripping with the blood of the prophets
forever frozen in your crown.
Not one dust speckle
Sticks to your dreams.
Your olive and palm trees
Have their roots in the celestial landscape.
No path could lead to you
Not on the mountain and not at sea,
Only a lost heart in its sorrow
May find its way to you.
In your memory your turrets are still burning
In fire and gold
And the son of Yshay
in your castles
From his depths cries for God.
Still the son of Amotz has visions of the Lord on His chair
and the Galilean, bleeding
under the cross is kneeling.
Gently smiling, you'll depart on your journey
on wings of angels and cherubim,
above the yellow steppes of Asia
and the smoke of European cities.
Above the lands of many nations you'll be passing
Laying in darkness, fooled
for a few moments they may tremble, quarrel,
and then return to their incomprehensible dream.
You are carried from the East, above
the rivers of tears of Babylon,
towards the frontiers of Spain
and the fears of the forests of Germany.
The mice will not see you
while searching in their newspapers,
But the ocean, with green melodies
Will sing its praise for you.
Have pity, Flower of Heaven
On human’s tortured Earth
Swimming in silence under the load
Of pain, evil and vanity
Have pity also on me,
A passer by in this world
In the dark night of the soul
Above the Satanic darkness
Of the much suffering world
The whiteness of your dead body will shine,
You, Bride of God.
Happy be the man to look upon your lovely face
Happy be the one to kiss
Your white feet soles.
